The Salem Foundation is proud to have supported the newly unveiled Vietnam War Memorial. On the grounds of the Oregon State Capital, the space is a carefully constructed, open-area between black-stone walls with benches placed for reflection and healing. The walls are engraved with the names of 790 Oregonians who lost their lives in the Vietnam War, and are sorted by their hometowns, with thirty-nine names representing Salem. A touching statue, pictured below, is a piece titled, “Soldier’s Return.” It highlights the burdens and invisible wounds many veterans returned home with, after the war. The Salem Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to the many Salem and Oregon veterans who served in the Vietnam War.
